This four-week workshop is an invaluable opportunity for authors, aspiring authors and artists to get an insider's account of how to transform an idea into story text, then a fully illustrated children's book. Bring your favorite illustrated children's book to the first class session.

Part 1-Text Becomes A Story: Finding and committing to a source story. From personal memoir to favorite poems or song lyrics. Why this story needs art and why most anything goes if it moves you.

Part 2-On The Page: Storyboarding, camera angles, bringing worlds to life through detail. The arc of the image: what comes before and after an illustrated moment?

Part 3-The Variety Of Media: Strengths and weaknesses of different media, from colored pencils to paper collage.

Part 4-Trusting Your Gut: Finding your visual voice. Working with balance, imbalance and "rightness." Working with agents, submissions, resources, and real-world shortcuts.
